Hello!

I am and established artist with over thirty years experience in the field of Art & Design. I have a passion for the people and landscapes of Ireland and I am known in my hometown of Cobh for my work of local places and faces. My main focus of inspiration centres in and around the island of Cobh, home to my ancestors and where I am now settled. This website showcases my artistic life since moving to Cobh and some works from my travels abroad.

I would like to add that because of health issues in Sept/Oct 2023 I have decided to freeze this website in time (Oct 2024). My work continues as much as possible. My progress and varied activities can be observed via Facebook/instagram (links below if still open), yet I will not be adding more work here. This page represents the last twenty-two years of my life since moving to Cobh in 2002. For a more in depth explanation please read 'The Last Word' under 'Blog'. Thank you.

My Story

Born in the late 60's to an Irish mother, (from Cobh, Co. Cork, Ireland,) and a Dominican, (Commonwealth,) father, I grew up in London where during my teens I developed a keen interest in Art. This interest steered me away from the negative distractions of inner-city life that could have easily lured any youth down the wrong path.

Fortunately, I met great teachers in my younger years that nurtured my talent for painting. I soon discovered my motivation for life and pursued my dream of going to Art College. Both my parents were from severely impoverished backgrounds in their countries of birth. So, moving to the UK gave them a chance for a better life, and of course their children.

Ours was an average working-class family and I was the first in our family to go to college, for which my father was very proud. He would have been even prouder to see me attain a first-class honours degree at Central St. Martin’s College of Art and Design, where I studied, (Printed,) Textile Design.

He passed away during my gap year, (before I began my degree,) during which time I visited his country of birth for the first time at age 18. I stayed with my Caribbean family in the home and 'rainforest' he was raised.

After graduating in 1992 I worked as a Designer for Habitat - UK, a freelance designer, and visiting Lecturer, (amongst other jobs and further education.)

In 2002 I decided to move to Cobh, to pursue my next dream; to be a painter. I arrived in Ireland as a single parent with my eight-year-old daughter, where I believed a better life awaited her also. I bought a house in French's Avenue and worked as a sales assistant and gym instructor. It took a few years to settle in and I eventually found plenty of time to paint.

I started my artistic journey here in Cobh as a portrait artist in which the public house I painted 'The Characters of Cobh' offered me a studio/gallery upstairs. After closure/sale of the building a few years later I ventured into landscape painting.

I was the creator of 'The Artist's Cove', a small gallery/gift shop and Tea Lounge, once based in my mothers house on 'The Rock' in Cobh, where you could see my life's work, purchase mounted Giclée prints, and have a home made scone! (2019 - 2023). After a short time of closure I then reopened The Artist's Cove for a brief spell at my home in French's Avenue, minus the Cream Tea! I realised very quickly; there is no place like home.

Now a days the online world is my gallery.

I work predominantly from my studio at home where I use to run the occasional art class. I schedule a dedicated slice of my week to painting whatever light the moth of my imagination is attracted to.

I also find time to write, create poetry, sing, and play the guitar. I even do a little busking for the occasional cruise ships here in Cork Harbour - (it gets me out of the house!)

Please browse and enjoy my website and be sure to contact me if you have any questions. If you are interested in the purchase of an original artwork, some are for sale and these are 'Open To Offer'.

I do not give prices but I may accept yours.

Thank You.
